Gyan opened the door to the pub to find it in his favorite state: emptey. He turned and held the door open for Dusoan and nodded to the bartender, who saw his best customer and began to take two dusty bottles from underneith the bar. "Eh, 'ow 'bout tcha Gyan?" He said in a scruff voice. "I'm quite allright sam, I'm showing a new person the dusty gem of Hogsmede." Gyan said politley, smiling a bit.
The scruffy bartender blushed under his grey beard and set the two bottles on the bar.

Dusoan picked up his bottle and sniffed it quizzically. Apparentally satisfied, he took a small sip. It sizzled on his tounge and a small amount of steam trickled out from between his teeth. Dusoan laughed, and took a big gulp. His eye watered and smoke came pouring out of his ears. "This is your drink?" he laughed "How exotic! I've never had anything quite like it." He made a curious motion with his hand and gave a short bow to the bartender. "Your drink brings fire to the tongue and warmth to the body, thank you. The debt is most notably recognized."

Gyan grinned and took a drink of his own. "It's called Firewhiskey. Technically, we're too young to be drinking it, but the bartender is a family friend." He said with a wink. "The other students drink something much lighter called "butterbeer". It warms you up a bit, but nothing like a good swig of Firewhiskey" He said, smiling.

The two boys sat down at a dirty table near the corner of the bar. "Someday I should bring you some Mezsi. It is a drink we brew, very similar to Firewhiskey." Dusoan took another swing from his bottle. HIs gaze turned thoughtful. "You say you are a first year at your school Gyan, tell me, are all children in this school as apt-minded as yourself? Or are you an exception among your peers?"

Gyan took another swig himself and answered. "Well, it varies quite a bit. We have some who are very intelligent, but lack the people and social skills to show it." Gyan almost giggled when he thought of Fork as he spoke again.
"And we have some that are just plain out of their minds, but compleate genuises. But yes, I am one of the only first years who know more magic than most of the entire school. Not to brag, of course." He added. He fumbled through his pocket and pulled out three golden galleons. He sat them on the table and took another drink. "It's always polite to leave a tip" He said with a small smile.

Dusoan stared at the gold, there were so many new things about these people. "A tip? Do you mean advice? Is that coin a spell to increase thier knowledge? It looks more like a credit to recognize debt to me. But if the owner is your friend, why do you need to use credits?" This was all so confusing.

Gyan began to explain. "Well, in restaraunts and bars, a tip means paying a little bit over your total ammount due. These drinks together cost four galleons. I've allready paid him, and I'm leaving a little extra." He said smiling.

This made some sense to Dusoan, it did not match with his people's concept of currency, but he decided not to press the matter. He had just been reminded of something far more important. "I tried earlier to get into your wand shop, but there was no one around." Dusoan gave only the slightest pause before continuing. "I need to have my wand inspected to see if it can perform your magics. Perhpas you could tell me if it is suitable, or can show me where I could have it inspected." Duson reched behind his back and withdrew a long, slender wand from where it had been tucked in his belt behind him, sword-like. He held it somewhat wearily across both hands, as one might hold a snake that had not yet proven friendly. "This," the slightest twitch in his jaw " is my wand." Dusoan lay it across the table, halfway between the two boys. It was a fine wand, familiar in style, but also strange. It was about 40cm, around15in, and quite smooth. Dark spots, marks where buds or branches had been trimmed and polished away, still shone. And there where a few strange blemishes on it that seemed to come from the inside of the wood. "It is one standard sword-legth, matching me from elbow to fingertip and is made of Hemlock treated with Mistletoe oil. Is it sutable for your magics?" Dusoan looked at Gyan, an almost worried tone to his voice.

Gyan examined it from afar. It was average length, but the core was quite unfamilliar to him. Gyan reached out for it, but stopped himself short. "May I?" He asked the boy.

Dusoan gave a solemn nod. Noting the caution and prudence of this boy, marks of a much older man and a great warrior. "of course. I had it made specially for my journey here. It is the best we could do to imitate your wands. The core is a tail hair of a Thestrel." Dusoan beamed slightly "One of mine, acutally. They were going to use one from the chief's stallion, but I convinced them to use one from Devona, my best mare."

Gyan gently picked it up and looked down it as though he were looking down a gun barrel. It wasn't perfectly straight, but was a very well-made wand.
"Avis" He muttered, There was a slight pop, and several pink birds fluttered out from the end of his wand. "Deletrium" He muttered again, and the birds dissapeared in puffs of blue smoke. "It works just fine" He said with a smile. "Magic comes from inside the Wizard, and can be channeled though just about anything, but wands work extremely well, and amplify the magic." He then slowly set his own wand on the table next to Dusoans. Gyan's wand was made from yew and had a dragon heartstring core. It was about thirteen inches, and had his initials engraved near the handlw with a pocket knife.
"This is a standard wand. My brothers, however, is a little over two feet long." He said with that same grin, taking a drink of firewhiskey and flipping his hair back.
He was on his third flask, and his cheeks were rather rosy.

Dusoan beamed at the news that his wand was satisfactory. And also made a note that power seemed to run in this boys family. Everything was going so well. Dusoan took another drink "I would very much like to meet your companions, to get to know the people of this place. Tell me, do you think there is anyway I might be allowed into your school? Perhaps as an exchagne student, or an ambassador of my people?"

"Students are allowed from anywhere, no matter what country. I beleive you know it is a boarding school?" Gyan asked. He downed his last flask and decided to quit drinking for the day. He was mildly dizzy.

Dusoan's eyes lit up, partly from the whiskey and partly from this news. He stood up from his chair suddenly, swayed for a moment, then scouped up his wand and pointed it towards the door. "Than show me the way to you school! Tonight, I become a student of Hogwarts!"

Gyan stood up as well with an enormous grin. "Right this way, my good man. To Hogwarts!" Gyan led his newfound ally outside and up High Street to the enourmous castle looming in the night.
