"My summer? It was an absolute horror half of the time, the other half wasn't so bad" he grinned. It was hard to say what the low point of his summer had been, it was either the time Sprightly disappeared for about three days or the time he'd been thrown bodily into a brick wall. The high point was harder to say, but he'd had more than a few good times so the summer wasn't a total waste.
All of those stories were for a later time, what the present needed was succinctness. "I'll tell you about everything later, but suffice it to say I had a busy summer" he frowned, something he did very rarely "I guess it wouldn't have been so rough if it weren't for Sprightly. Never mind all that though, how was your summer? Were you served mai-tais by barely dressed island natives?" he grinned roguishly.

"[red]Well, you just hit that right on the nose didn't you Nicodemus Grey? But it was the other way around. I was the barely dressed native serving the drinks,[/red]" Aislin said shaking her head. "[red]I guess it wasn't too bad once I got kicked out of home,[/red]" she added trying to make the statement sound cheerful when in reality, it was not. She might have overdone her enthusiasm a bit, and her smile faltered.
"[red]Admittedly it, was a bit lonely, but it was as good as it could have been I suppose after....after Morganna....[/red]" Aislin said. Aislin choked on her own words, but forced a smiled anyways. "[red]School will be better though, right?[/red]" she asked keeping her voice steady, though her eyes searched undauntingly for reassurance.
God damnit you are such a downer Aislin! Why the hell did you have to go and make everything so solemn all of the sudden? she scolded herself mentally. She soon found herself rambling to make up for the sudden mood change, and felt like and idiot for doing so. "[red]Um, but, Sprightly and I get along fairly well now, um, and she and some first years got me out of the shrieking shack. But, it wasn't too bad a situation, I mean, I would have worked it out eventually.
Erm, but I'm not saying I'm ungrateful, because, I, erm, I am and now we all kind of get along, and that's good because you remember how bad it was last year. Sprightly I think absolutely despised me, but you knew all that and I'm rambling about absolute nonsense, please stop me,[/red]" she said making a sort of confused and embarrassed face. "[red]Sorry...I didn't mean to...[/red]" she said. After a long pause she sighed.
"[red]Nice earring Nico,[/red]" she finished.

"Certainly, you set it up and I'll show up. I'm good at that, showing up" she grinned half-heartedly, suddenly feeling terribly bothered by the whole affair. Poor Maria, the girl was a mudblood after all and it wasn't like she'd ever had a real chance with Nicodemus Grey. The best she could hope for was, what? To bask in his presence for a few short years, be a bit of decoration? That worried Sprightly very much. She actually liked Maria, she seemed to be genuinely good and nice which was more than could be said for the better part of the world's population. Besides, she had been through so much already.
Equally worrying was her own future with the Grey family. She had determined that she despised every member of it, save for the youngest and even he was something of a manipulative freak who used pseudo-egomania to mask severe self-esteem issues. Worse still, she was steadily loosing her grip on herself, it was like trying to squeeze a bar of wet soap. People like her were just window dressing, nothing more than names attached to more important men. People like her were kept locked away with calming spells, unspoken and unremembered. The idea of being bewitched into false calm made bile rise in her stomach. It had been done to her before, like a Thorazine pill being shoved down her throat, she'd been subdued like a wild animal. Even werewolves were treated better.

It took Fork several moments to realize she had fallen asleep. Aislin's arrival next to her, as well as the entrance of most of the other second-years, had gone completely unnoticed. Rargh. She felt so ill-informed now, as if she had no idea what was going on. Oh, well. Nico stood before their desk, speaking to Aislin, who looked spaced-out until her book fell off the desk. She looked very awkward now. Oh, well. Fork folded her arms across the desk and rested her chin on them, her blue left and brown right eye jointly observing the chatting students with ease. This was possibly the most sane she'd felt since she arrived here, and Fork certainly was going to enjoy it.

Aislin tried to imitate the headmistress movements, and her face lit up with excitement when the book changed into a high top converse, but then she frowned with dismay. The shoe was a book. The book was now only shaped like a shoe, and it still flipped open to all of it's pages.
"[red]Err....[/red]" she said with a curious and confused look on her face. "[red]That's not right...[/red]" she mumbled to herself.

"Librericum." Maria muttered, and to her fury, the book didn't move at all. "Librericum!" She said, much firmer and louder. It was still a book.
Maria spent a moment thinking of a shoe for it to turn into, and every detail in it. Then she tried again. "Librericum!" Still nothing. Maria grimaced and tried several more times, becoming more frustrated as she went.
{Hehe. Maria is crappy at Transfiguration.}

Fork grinned a little to herself. "Librericum!"
And her book flopped around for several minutes like a dying fish, before coughing fitfully and grotesquely worming into a vaguely shoe-like shape. Fork couldn't help herself--she laughed. It was perhaps one of the strangest things she had ever seen, which was an impressive accomplishment.
The book now looked something like a paper-and leather skate shoe. Except that it had corners sticking out at odd intervals.

Aislin looked at Fork's "creation" and laughed as well. "[red]Wow, Fork. That takes talent,[/red]" she joked patting her best friend on the shoulder.
"[redLibrericum![/red]" she said again. Nothing more happened.

Fork giggled helplessly, dissolving into rocking fits of laughter, falling back onto her chair and folding her arms around herself, hugging her sides. "Ehehee, you would think that I would be able to manage a simple spell, what with making my own and all, but--" she was forced to stop again for laughing, having looked again at her "shoe", "[orange]--apparently not![/orange]"
She twiddled her wand weakly in the shoe's direction, attempting to clean it up a little, and it twitched once and flopped onto it's side, coaxing a fresh wave of giggles from Fork.

"Better than mine." Was all Maria had to say, and she giggled once. Relieved of some of her tension, she glanced at her shoe. "Librericum!" It seemed to shiver a little, but the only visible difference was that the book's corners were rounder. "So much for a running shoe." She tried several more times, and each time led the book to become a little more smooth, and the shape somewhat resembled the sole of a shoe.

Aislin laughed again, leaning on Fork for support as her shoe squiggled some more. It looked like a very distorted fish, flopping on dry land. "[red]Oh my god...[/red]" she said, trying to catch her breath, "[red]i haven't laughed like this in...ages...[/red]" she said, her eyes starting to water. She didn't know why she found the situation so funny.

Fork gave up trying to modify her "shoe" with a crooked grin and a shrug. "Well, " the Gryffindor mused, "can't say I didn't try, can you?"

"[red]I suppose I can't[/red]" Aislin replied breathlessly. Being so ill-concentrated, when Aislin cast the spell at her own sad shoe, it missed completely and hit the desk, turning it into a rather large wooden flip flop.
