Potions ~ Lesson One ~ Second Year

Maria glanced at the instructions on the board as she walked in. With a sigh, she set to work, starting the fire for the cauldron and letting the water heat. She was the first one in the room, so she might get done first, and have more time to talk. That was what she hoped, anyway. She wanted to talk to Sprightly again about Hogsmeade with her sisters.

Fork walked in the room, her eyes wide and curious. Her face was quite dark with bruises, but she didn't particularly mind, she was n a good mood, she seemed to be running straight instead of in circles anymore, she was sane again! ...Or at least as sane as she would ever be. This was her first potions class at Hogwarts, for she had missed her entire first year of class due to a late enrollment. Ah, well, hopefully she wouldn't screw it up too badly. She grinned to herself. Only Haleigh and Maria Farmer were in the room yet, so she took a seat in the second row. Upon seeing the Headmistress, she remembered with some guilt the letters she was supposed to bring to her for verification, or whatever Haleigh would do with them. Hm. Oh, well, she would have to go and find them after class. She dropped her bag by her desk and lit a fire.

Aislin walked into class and immediately set her eyes on Fork. She sat down right next to her friend and silently handed her ingredients before lighting her own cauldron and following the directions on the board. She had one thin red cut across her cheek, for she woke up next to a thorn bush this morning.

Her transformations were almost every night, and she remembered her grandfather telling her about werewolf maturity. It would probably be another month or two before she only turned on full moons.

She noticed Fork's condition, but didn't want to bring any unwanted attention to her friend. She sent her a note with a spell on it, not unlike one that she used last year to talk to Nico; only Fork would be able to read the note.

Are you okay? it said simply. She didn't know what else to say.

[Fork]

Fork grinned as her friend walked in. She took one of the newt tails Aislin set on the desk and dropped it into her boiling cauldron. ...This seems rather easy. The girl thought, stirring slowly.

Licking her lips lightly to dampen them, she picked up Aislin's note and scrawled her response. It's nothing. :] I got in a fight. She slipped it silently back onto Aislin's desk.

Aislin was mixing her ingredients, and she read the note out the corner of her eye. With a flick of her wand, more letters appeared. Will you tell me about it? she asked, not wanting to pry into her best friend's personal business.

((Chel-mi-bella, you did NOT just use 'best friend' and 'personal business' in the same sentence. :3 ))

Fork grinned, prodding the paper with one hand and tipped the slender vial of dragon's saliva into her cauldron.

I suppose I should ...do have to tell you... So sure. Mr. Froggie on Mr. Cracker says: Fork got in a fight with a certain someone whom she does not regularly greet with the Fishmas, for Fork does not believe said someone deserves such a cheerful greeting, as Fork does not trust nor like said person in any respect. Fork has also, however, arranged a truce with said person, because Fork does not want to cause her Aislin any trouble. Because it is someone with whom her Aislin is apparently concerned.

Fork glanced anxiously across at Aislin as the note fluttered over.

[[I didn't...Aislin did? I know, kinda hypocritical, huh?]]

Aislin read this and almost immediately connected it to Fork's weird behaviour around a certain boy...Aislin thought she knew exactly who she was talking about and smiled for a moment, but then that vanished, replaced with a bit of outrage.

She flicked her wand angrily at the paper, her face turning red as she watched the words form.

Stradivarius. it first said. Did he hurt you? she said, angered by the thought of anyone causing more pain to her friend.

Unfortunately, she was so wrapped up it this that she knocked her cauldron and it tipped. Some of it spilled on Aislin's lap, whilst the rest on the floor.

Aislin lept up in surprise and pain, and cursed, not at all softly. "[red]Scourgify![/red]" she said, cleaning up the mess that she had just made before it could do anything else. It suddenly occured to Aislin that her parchment (not the note to Fork, for Aislin had sent that back to her friend's desk.) was on fire. "[red]Aguamenti![/red]" she said spraying her parchment. Unfortunately, now her papers were soaked, meanwhile Aislin's legs continued to sear with pain.

Aislin racked her brains for some spell to dry them but could not. "[red]Rennervate![/red]" she said instead before sinking down, laughing. She was in pain, she was wet, she ruined her potion and made a fool of herself. To Aislin, this was absolutely hysterical.

Fork giggled, too, though perhaps in not the same manner. She seized Aislin's cauldron, which was mostly empty, and refilled it with water. Grinning crookedly, and laughing as she spoke, she asked, "Well, do I look okay? I look fine, eh? No little deMorvang brat's going to hurt me, I'm indestructible!" Her grin looked a little deranged as she sat back down, but she was composed soon enough and she set Aislin's cauldron back on her desk.

"Besides, " she dropped her voice, "as Mr. Froggie said, I arranged a truce. Kinda. Except we fought after we set up the truce, but that was his fault for provoking me." She arranged her face into what she thought was a haughty expression, then it dissolved into another grin.

Aislin watched Fork fill her cauldron and set it back on her desk. Fork's outburst of being indestructible made Aislin giggle, but the arrangement intrigued her. "[red]What was this truce?[/red]" she asked, looking at her robes, which seemed to be smoking where the potion spilled.

"[red]Episkey![/red]" Aislin murmured, hoping to stop some of the pain that she felt. Nothing happened. "[red]d**n,[/red]" she whispered. Deciding that she'd rather die than miss another class, she began her potion again, and awaited an answer from Fork.

[Fork]

Fork's grin faded slightly. She pointed her wand at Aislin's legs before speaking, and deadpanned, "Tilapishk. That should help. I arranged with him that so long as he didn't provoke me again, I would ignore him, and trust him to do the same, for your sake, seeing as how you seem to have trapped yourself in the middle of a private war. It's probably a good plastic fish anyway, because this puts an end to both of us constantly getting in trouble for whatever new horror enters our minds."

She shrugged nonchalantly. "That spell should help, by the way, it's one of my own, " she added in a whisper, with a wink.

Aislin couldn't help but laugh. "[red]You're such a goof...[/red]" she said shaking her head. "[red]Thanks, though. For all of it,[/red]" she said. "[red]So...how about after class we go reek havoc. It's been awhile since I've been in the forbidden forest.[/red]" Aislin had this thoughtful look on her face.

"[red]Yes, I've been seeking shelter in the whomping willow on full moons as a precaution. it leads to the shrieking shack you know,[/red]" she added as an after thought.

[Fork]

Fork laughed, slapping Aislin a high five. "Yes! We need to get into trouble again! And..." she glanced furtively around, "...Big trouble." she gave Aislin a wicked crooked grin.

"[red]Is there any other kind?[/red]" she asked with a huge smile on her face, glad that her friend was all for it. She didn't even notice that she had been mixing her ingredients subconsciously until just now. "[red]Hehe. I wonder if this will explode, or if I mixed it right...I always was horrid at potions. i only passed last year because of Nico,[/red]" she said.

[Fork]

Fork grinned again, dunking a flask into her potion and capping it. Devious plans were already forming in her head. "No, of course, not, " she said detachedly, "And Fork can help with the potion if you want. I seem to be doing all right, anyway. What was Nico like?"

Aislin thought a moment. "[red]Nico was very...protective. Don't get me wrong, he still is, but...I don't know...he's changed. He was quite the charmer last year. Not that he isn't any more, but her was so slick...now it's just like...he's seen too much...so he doesn't act the same. He...he acts more like a Slytherin now a days...[/red]" she finished with a sort of sad look on her face. Her eyes glistened, and it looked as though she was on the verge of tears, but she shook her head and smiled. "[red]You would have loved him Fork. He saved my life yo know.[/red]"
