Maria poured over books of all shapes and sizes, looking for particular instructions on learning Occlumency. Most of the books she found, bowever, simply stated that she must have someone to perform Legilimency as a sort of practice. But that wouldn't work. Anyone who knew Legilimency either had control over her or could find out about the dark secrets she was harboring, including but not limited to her ability to talk to snakes. Only Aislin knew about that one, and only a little Ravenclaw girl and a frightening Professor knew about the darkest of her secrets.
With a sigh of relief, Maria found it. It was a book on Defensive Techniques. Sure, it said to practice with someone who knew Legilimency, but this one gave more instructions on ways to learn outside of practice. It told her to clear her mind of all things, and that it might be difficult at first, but that was the key to Occlumency. She stopped looking at the book and closed her eyes, trying her hardest to think of nothing. It was very difficult she soon realized. She would have to practice it more often.
So, Maria sat, thinking of virtually nothing, and attempting to form a sort of blockade in her mind. It was how she would have imagined getting rid of an invader. She might have looked strange to the onlooker, but it was of utmost importance that she practiced.
{Mmkay. Random note. I don't want Maria to learn Occlumency too quickly, so I'm going to wait until she posts practicing 100 times. This is 1}

Gyan was pacing around the library, looking through Moste Potente Potions when he spotted Maria, eyes closed, looking rather foolish. "You know, the Library isn't neccesarily the best place to practice Occlumency" He teased, seeing the title of the open book in front of her.

Maria opened her eyes in shock and glanced over at Gyan. "I guess not. But I wanted to get started right away. You said yourself that it took you four years to learn. One thing you need to know about me. I'm a perfectionist, quite unlike Alexis. If I'm not doing it right, then I won't rest until I figure it out. Besides, libraries are usually quieter than most places, so it can't have been too bad of a choice."
She sighed, and closed the book. "These books have given me basically what I need to know. I've got to practice to accomplish this one. It doesn't come naturally."
{Lol. Oh no, she sounds like me!}

{Ha, indeed she does}
"No, I beleive you heard me wrong. I said it only took me a month to learn it. It took me four years to master it. And really, the more you practice, the better you get" He said, still perusing through Moste Potente Potions.

"Well, it's got to be accomplished soon. I won't let that man boss me around with his threats for too long. I'll just have to learn really fast. Any tips?" She asked.
It looked like it was her only option. But what would she do from there? Would she try and take down the man from inside his own operation? It sounded good, but would it work?

"Practice. As often as you can and as hard as you can. The sooner you learn, the sooner you'll master." Gyan said, not taking his eyes off the book.

"Great. Then I guess that's what I'll do." Maria said, grinning slightly. They had taken that first comment, had a conversation about it, and in turn she had made herself an excuse to practice in the Library. Closing her eyes, she once again attempted clearing her mind. This time, she was more successful, because for a moment, nothing crossed her brain.

Gyan gave a sort of shout. He had found what he was looking for in the book. "Eh, Maria, do you have any parchment?" Gyan said, taking his quill from behind his ear.

"Of course." Maria said, still focusing on holding the void of space that was her mind's Occlumency. "Accio, Parchment!" Unfortunately, she had lots of parchment in her bag, and due to her focus on Occlumency, her mind didn't specify which bit of parchment. A large roll of it came out of the bag and zoomed towards her. She opened her eyes just in time to see it slam into her stomach. Maria let out a soft grunt.
"Here." Maria said, handing Gyan the parchment. Her mind was filled with thoughts again.

Gyan took it and began to scribble down a potion recepie. "Seem's like your having a bit of trouble" Gyan said, still writing.

"A bit." She muttered and glanced at Gyan as he wrote something down. "Nothing a bit of practice can't handle."
Maria stopped. "What are you doing anyway?" The book he was holding looked old, though most in the library did. He had seemed completely enveloped in whatever it was he was doing, though, and hadn't stopped for anything, even her poor attempts at Occlumency.

Gyan finished with the paper and stuffed it into his pocket. "Nothing, you should keep up the practice" He said innocently. He turned to go put the book back in it's place.

"Hang on, now." Maria said, as Gyan turned to put the book back. "Mr. Man-of-Mystery! Why do you do that? Shrug off any honest question and then pry into another's business. I don't remember asking you to interrogate me about the . . . um, the 'bully' . . . if you know what I mean. And yet when I ask one simple question about what you're doing, I get shrugged off with nothing. That's something that I hear from my eight-year-old brother when he's caught with his hand in the cookie jar!"
She wasn't mad, or anything, just honestly curious about the boy. Her sister was his friend, she knew. But Maria wanted to know why he acted that way. Why everything was such a secret. "And I know I have to practice. We've covered that one point about five times today."

Gyan turned around with, not a look of anger, but a small smirk. "Well, if you must know about what I'm doing, it's brewing Polyjuice Potion under my bed. I keep a small box under it with one full serving of many different potions. I couldn't find the recepe for Polyjuice, so I had to come hunting for it. He grinned again, than turned on his heel and left the Library.

Maria frowned. Polyjuice, eh? She glanced at the books in front of her, and closed her eyes. She would practice one more time before leaving the library.
