Alyson slipped in, quite shocked that class had already started, and very nervous. She thought she had heard someone speaking impatiently, and she eyed everyone's wands warily. If just one of them got furious enough with her to shoot spells, Alyson would be out of there before anyone could say, "Go." And, she felt that she would get detention, which would be even worse. The thought of being trapped without her sisters to keep her safe wasn't welcoming.
Mumbling an apology, she sat down, wanting to be anywhere but in the tense classroom, and glancing her sister's direction for assistance.

Alex blinked at the short outburst that had taken place, and watched as the other students tried to unlock the chests. She herself was quite eager to use magic, but waited until a couple of other students had tested it out before she pulled out her wand. She didn't want to make a fool of herself. Her sister had come in quite silently, and Alexis knew that Alyson Farmer was never one to try out new things, especially with magic, so she stepped up to one of the chests to try it herself.
"Um . . . Alohamora!" Alexis said eagerly, but carefully sounding out the word. It still came out a little on the blurry side, but the wand did get warmer in her hand. Nothing happened though. She pushed a little on the locked chest, but it stood as firm as ever. She scrunched her nose a little bit, and shook the wand until she realized it probably wouldn't do any good.

Though Stradivarius's face showed it's usual impassive expression, he was roiling with rage inside. Not only had Klarisa cornered him in the hallway on his way to Charms, she had then accused him of stealing her bag, gone on a rant about how much of an ass he was, digressing on a random tangent several times in the process, and forced him to go find it, following him every step of the way, and he was now twenty minutes late for class. "I'm terribly sorry I'm late, Professor Buchanan, " Stradivarius apologized with his usual unassuming voice and well-practiced manners. Placing a small note on the desk before her(thank the gods the headmistress had come to his rescue in the hallway), he retreated to his own desk, placing his bag on the floor and drawing his wand. "Would you please explain any part of the lesson I may have missed? I'd rather not make any mistakes spellcasting." He asked sweetly, casting a surreptitious glance at the other first-years fiddling with small chests. There was a definite note of arrogance in the movements of a few of them. Hmm... No doubt she's irritable... Far too many wizard children are such nasty spoiled classless beasts, hopefully I can make a better impression, or better yet... none at all.

Quick steps and an overly-polite tone caught Ranyr's attention and curiosity, her eyes quickly looking the boy over. The one from her other classes, was he not? Suddenly uninterested, she frowned to herself, placing a hand on her desk as if to sturdy her figure in it's current standing position. She hadn't even attempted to cast the spell yet, but at the moment she wasn't too keen on trying. The professor seemed aggrivated enough, she had noted to herself, and though she would've liked to continue an argument against this nameless female, she'd like much less to be in any sort of trouble. In that respect she offered herself a mental chuckle in response to the Stradivarious's previous, and brief, conversation.
Drawing a wand out of her cloak, she fiddled with it in her free hand [other still firmly supporting her] but refrained from casting spells till those already on their way would be analyzed.

Jalayna opened her eyes to see what happened to the lock. She prodded it with her wand, and poked, and jiggled, but nothing happened. She looked around and smiled a bit at the boy who just got to class.
She turned back to her chest and poked her lock again. She giggled slightly as it stayed locked. She said again, "Alohomora!" Nothing happened. Jalayna rolled her eyes and waited a few seconds, then the lock suddenly fell. She laughed again, and pulled the lock a bit. it fell into her open palm and she put it on her desk and observed the lock. Hers looked a tiny bit rusty, actually. She shuddered and took her hands off the lock.

Blair walked around the class watching as a few students attempted to open their locks, most of the locks doing nothing, but slightly trembling. Then two students walked in. The first one seemed horribly shy, why the other one was rather polite. A nice break from teh rude little purebloods that she had to deal with.
"[teal]Its not a big deal, its the first day, a few points will be taken off though. The lesson is the charm Alohomora, which is the unlocking spell. Just grab a chest and try the spell after watching one of the other students try it, if you have any problems just ask.[/teal]" Blair walked back to her desk and sat down to write down the points from the student's grades. Then looked up again to see if any had succeded in unlocking it.
[[I'll change my post Jalayna, when you finish your's]]

Alyson was definitely relieved, and though nothing had happened to make her opinions of wizards any worse, she was still nervous with all of the wands that were out. Especially because her own sister was using one. But, she pulled out her wand anyway. There was a slight possibility that it would come in handy. That's what I tell myself anyway.
She took a deep breath and looked at the lock. Even if she wasn't eager to try magic, she wasn't one to simply give up on anything. It was a challenge, and she'd take it, no matter what her fears were. Listening to what the other kids said, she mimicked them. "Alohamora." She said, with just a little bit of hesistance. Nothing happened at all.
Fear was erased with frustration, and she concentrated on the lock even more. "Alohamora!" Nothing again. "Alohamora!"
The lock shivered a bit, and Alyson hastily scooted her chair back from the chest sitting on the desk. Her heart was pounding, but to her momentary delight, the lock seemed to have opened, which was better than what Alex had done. Slowly the fear started to leak away, and it was replaced with pride.

"Thank you, ma'am." Stradivarius glanced down at the small chest on his desk, drawing his wand from his sleeve. He had noticed when he arrived that both he and Klarisa had taken to keeping their wands in their sleeves, which he found rather ironic. Drawing the pale wooden shaft from his dark robe fabric, he held it between his hands for a moment to warm it up. His wand, he had discovered, was temperamental and refused to work if it was cold. Drawing in a deep breath, the slender boy drew himself upright somewhat fussily, murmuring the spell under his breath. ... A slight blue glow showed around the barrel of the lock, but no other changes occurred. Hm... Why wasn't it working? He had been educated at home in most simple spells like this, and they had always worked before... Bending down, he glanced into the keyhole. Ah. There's the problem. A different barrel requires a different catalyst. This particular style he remembered, needed a slight swirl of the wand in order to work properly. He tried again, and the bolt popped open immediately with well-oiled ease. Stradivarius blinked in satisfaction and sat down, observing the successes and failures of the other students.

Kai watched the lock closely, and saw a slight move when he performed the spell. Kai tried to figure out what was wrong. He was close because there was some movement, but what had he done wrong? Kai changed the movement of his wand a bit and said, "Alohomora." Kai watched the lock as it unlocked itself and hung on the chest. Kai scooped it up and put it back on the chest. He performed the spell again, and sure enough it came off a second time. Kai smiled a little as he put the lock back on and went back to his desk.

Ranyr finally decided to take a turn, boredom overcoming her apathy for the situation ... and those preforming the spell already weren't exactly amusing. She herself hadn't practiced the spell before, but that was this said spell specifically. Magic in general... not the first time. Still, she knew she expected to much of herself and was unconsciously fearing not being able to unlock it. The blow it would take to her ego would be staggering. If such a thing were to happen, that is. Thankfully her thoughts were not correlating to this here and she had merely been repeating the incantation to herself. Blank faced [perhaps with slight contempt] she inclined her head so as to peer down at the lock before her. Not wanting to risk anything complicated she had picked a basic, simple lock with no hidden tricks [as far as she could tell].
"Alohomora," she stated, clearly pronouncing each syllable and giving her wand the faintest movement to match. The lock shuddered after a brief hesitation, then fell back. Her eyes narrowed in apparant frustration. "Alohomora!" the brunette repeated with a harsher tone and more significant movement.
The lock violently came loose and clattered against the desk it rested on. She grinned smugly and returned to her seat. Regardless of how, she had succeeded. Second try. Though not fully satisfied, she was content with that. The next lesson she'd have to learn ahead of time....

Alexis grimaced as her sister opened the lock and gave a big grin. It wasn't fair how Aly was afraid of magic and still did better. Lifting her wand, she decided to give it one more go. "Alohamora." She said, this time focusing as hard as she could. The lock shimmered for a long while, making little clinking noises, and the wand felt like it would burn right through her hand.
The lock finally fell of with a soft plink. Alexis opened her eyes, for they had closed for fear of a failure. Smiling a bit, but still frustrated that she'd had such difficulty, Alex sat her wand down and waited, grinning support for her sister.
