Aly's Homework for the First Potions Lesson:
Ingredients and Their Possible Effects on the Potion.[/u]
~Dried Nettles~ Dried nettles might have a mild effect on healing boils, and therefore were important in the potion.
~Crushed Snake Fangs~ The crushed snake fangs might keep the Potion from sticking, as well as helping to keep side-effects minimal.
~Horned Slugs~ Horned Slugs might cause the thicker texture of the Potion, and probably have a large part in curing boils.
~Porcupine Quills~ The porcupine quills seemed to stop the smoke, which probably means that it kept the potion from being too powerful. If you didn't have enough porcupine quills, you might have made a potion that was too strong.

Alex's Homework, Lesson One:
Ingredients and Their Effects
^Dried Nettles^ Probably help to stabilize the potion and dry out the boils.
^Porcupine Quills^ Smoke disappeared at some point after adding these, so they probably get rid of smoke.
^Horned Slugs^ They probably help by thickening the potion.
^Crushed Snake Fangs^ ?
{Yeah, unfinished, but that's just how Alexis works.}

Gyanara Salamanece 1st Year Ravenclaw Ingredients and Their Effects on a Boil Reducing SolutionDried NettlesThe nettle leaf, while still planted, is poisinous to human skin, impaling it with up to hundreds of small spines, causing the skin to redden, itch, and burn. It's dried form however, the spines having fallen off, the leaves are quite harmless, and, when boiled, create a sap-like substance for the sealing of the boils, as well as drying them out. Crushed Snake FangsCrushed snake fangs , venom removed of course, are a powdered substance that begins to burn off the boils after they have been sealed by the nettles. Horned SlugsThe horned slug has no effect on the actual potion's effects themselves, but keeps the potion from sticking to the cauldron, and thickining it as well. Porcupine QuillsPorcupine quills, when powdered and added after all of the other ingredeants, dissolves the sealed, removed, boils and thus, finaly curing and removing the skin infliction.

Stradivarius deMorvang 1stYear Ravenclaw Catalogue of the Ingredients and Respective Effects of a Boil-Removing PotionDried Nettles- The dried nettles, having little remaining spines or oils, merely dehydrate the boils. Crushed Snake Fangs- Acts as a catalyst to the nettles, and the residual poison retards the natural spreading effect of the potion, keeping it confined to the area to which it is applied. Horned Slugs- Serve to thicken the potion, and the fresh mucus they produce aids in the healing process of he skin after the boil is completely drained. Porcupine Quills- Stabilize the molecular compounds of the potion, for snake poison and slug's gastric juices, when dissolved together, often prove quite explosive. The quills do little to nothing in the actual purpose of the potion. ((Haha, he's got it down in theory, he just can't seem to wok it out in practice.))
